Bridging the Skills Gap in Manufacturing

Recently, we had an inbound lead for YogyaBano from the L&D head of a large manufacturing unit with operations in North India. During the discovery call, she made an interesting observation:
“We have machines that can do incredible things, but not enough skilled workers to operate them.”

What’s Missing?

Three main areas stood out:

  • Digital Skills: From data analysis to understanding how software interacts with manufacturing processes and machinery.
  • Robotics & Automation: It’s not just running a machine—it’s programming and maintaining it, especially in the age of manufacturing automation.
  • People skills: This includes being able to solve problems, adapt to change, and communicate effectively within manufacturing industries.

The Upskilling Solution

The good news? Manufacturing companies are working to help workers learn these new skills. They are investing in training, working with schools, and using virtual reality to help workers learn.

Why Upskilling Matters

Helping workers learn new skills can make them feel confident and prepared for the future. It’s a win-win: employees grow, and manufacturing industries stay competitive.

Let’s Close the Gap

We need to work harder to help workers learn new skills in lean manufacturing and just-in-time manufacturing. We can do this by investing in our people and giving them the tools they need. Together, we can be leaders in our industry.

Are you seeing skills gaps in your team? What’s working for you in production planning and control? Let’s share ideas and close the gap together!
